This reimagining of the classic nursery rhyme centers on the journey of a humble star as it transforms into a wishing comet.
Rather than focusing on the familiar trope of a human wishing upon a star, I chose to shift the perspective, making the star itself the protagonist. Without a human character, I set out to personify the star and develop its unique journey.
I brought the star to life through energy and motion, carefully pacing the story to encourage engaging page turns. With each spread, readers discover something new about the star, fostering a sense of closeness as its journey unfolds.
To highlight the simple, iconic shape of the star, I adopted a geometric illustration style, a fresh direction for my work. I incorporated scanned watercolor swatches to add texture and combined them with a selective color palette to create vibrant arrays of light within the otherwise flat forms.
In the story’s final moments, a subtle glimpse of the person responsible for the star’s journey appears, safe within their home, reminding us that even the simplest moments can hold unexpected beauty.
